Equipment - Selecting Abrasive Blast Equipment is similar to purchasing a car. Size does matter, as well as the quantity of parts, their geometry, material composition, length of production, and of course cost.
Generally, Wheel Blast is focused to Production - large volume of parts or blasting, materials that can withstand steel shot / grit at fairly high velocities. Length of production is perceived to be long term and overall cost determines which machine you purchase. We will talk about Manufacture mix in the specific Equipment groups. Wheel Blast would be the equivalent of a truck - varying from a 18 Wheeler, to a Dump Truck, to a F-350 to a 1985 Toyota truck.
Air Blast is no slacker, they have some serious work horses as well. The biggest difference in air blast and wheel blast is of course, wheel blast is airless - meaning abrasive is delivered via a wheel with much higher volumes. As a general rule- wheel blast is limited to media with higher specific gravity - steel shot / grit, cut wire, stainless steel, aluminum, etc - although some non-ferrous medias are being used - walnut / plastic / glass bead, but under special application.
Air Blast is normally used on Large - Irregular pieces or pieces that require a specific lighter media. Their are a number of machines that use multiple nozzles to process parts. The Material Composition will often define the media to be used.
With Wheel Blast, the part is articulated in front of the wheel, as the wheel is stationary or semi-stationary. Air Blast - particularly - large parts - the part is stationary and the nozzle is articulated around the part. High production , in air blast, just requires more compressed air / blast pots and media - which at some point the production - warrants stepping up to airless machine or automating the air blast process.
Just like cars - some people only purchase New and others only purchase Used. We see the benefits of both and are comfortable working in both arenas. Regardless of your buying habits - there are a number of makes and models to choose from. You do not need a sledge hammer to drive a nail - equally you would not cut acres of hay with a lawn mower.
When you get to the Wheel Blast, Air Blast and Dust Collector sections - I will provide you with a number of options and links.
Part of my job is to make sure you have enough information to make the right purchase decision. We are not a New or Used car dealer - selling only GM - if we were, we would be out of business. Think of us as your Personal Trainer - as your situation changes - your requirements change. Early on you need something inexpensive, later you trade it in for something faster, and then you decide you want to keep faster - but get something for those long road trips - we will help you with each phase.
